Report: Miami Dolphins among many teams ‘eyeing’ Chandler Jones

The Miami Dolphins reportedly are among the many teams that are “eyeing” Chandler Jones.

According to a recent report, the Seattle Seahawks, Denver Broncos, Atlanta Falcons and others are also interested in the star pass rusher. The Dolphins may have to outbid these teams in order to acquire Jones during this offseason.

After an injury-riddled campaign in 2020 that limited him to just five games, Jones bounced back in a big way in 2021 for the Arizona Cardinals.

In 15 games, the 32-year-old tallied 41 combined tackles, 10.5 sacks and 26 quarterback hits. He was a big reason why the Cardinals made the postseason in the 2021 campaign.

The Dolphins could be looking to upgrade their pass rush this offseason, and while Jones will surely command a hefty salary, he could be the missing piece for an already impressive defense.

Jones could also be a solid mentor for young pass rusher Jaelan Phillips, who had a solid rookie season in 2021, registering 8.5 sacks.

New Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel is looking to help improve Tua Tagovailoa and the team’s offense, but Miami could take some pressure off its young quarterback by having a staunch defense in the 2022 season.

Last season, the Dolphins allowed the 16th fewest points and the 15th fewest yards in the league. If they can improve upon those numbers and have one of the best defensive units in the NFL, their playoff chances would greatly improve.

Over his 10-year career, Jones has tallied 107.5 sacks in 139 games. He is a four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro.
