The Miami Dolphins will enter the 2022 NFL season with many new faces on their coaching staff.
Oftentimes, a new coaching staff means a lot of player turnover for a team, as new coaches sometimes look to swap players of the old regime out for players that better fit the team’s new scheme.
However, new Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel seems to be ready to work with many current Dolphins players.
One such player is defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah. There’s a chance that Ogbah could leave the Dolphins this offseason, but McDaniel has made it clear that he hopes to keep the former second-round pick in South Florida.
“I’m excited about the guy, I’m excited about the opportunity,” McDaniel said. “I know we want him, we’re going to do our best to get him and it’s the same thing you have to do any time you have situations such as these. You have to be able to adjust if you’re unable to keep him but our hope is that that is not the case.”
Last season, Ogbah played in 17 games, starting 11 of those contests. In that time, he recorded an impressive nine sacks and 41 combined tackles. He also had 12 passes defended and one forced fumble.
At 28 years old, he is in the midst of his prime. For that reason, the Dolphins would surely love to lock him up to a multi-year contract.
With free agency and the 2022 NFL Draft fast approaching, the moves that the Dolphins make in the coming months will surely offer a lot of insight regarding what kind of offensive and defensive philosophy McDaniel and his staff plan to instill.
If Ogbah does return, there’s no doubt that he’ll be expected to pick up where he left off last season and turn in another impressive campaign.
