John Metchie says it would be ‘special’ to play with Jaylen Waddle again, claims it would be ‘unfair’

University of Alabama wide receiver and NFL draft prospect John Metchie would love a chance to be reunited with his former college teammate Jaylen Waddle.

When asked about the potential of teaming up with Waddle for the Miami Dolphins, Metchie said it would be “special” and claimed that the combination would be “unfair” for opponents.

The Dolphins selected Waddle with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and he delivered with a huge rookie campaign. Waddle caught 104 passes for 1,015 yards and six touchdowns in his first season in the league.

Miami is looking to upgrade its weapons around quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who also attended Alabama, as he enters his third season in the NFL.

It is possible that Metchie’s familiarity with Waddle could help him make an impact in Miami right away, and the team could consider adding him as another option behind DeVante Parker and Waddle.

The Dolphins signed Will Fuller to a one-year deal last offseason, but it didn’t work out, as he missed the majority of the season due to various factors.

That opens up a spot in the Dolphins’ offense that Metchie clearly thinks he can fill.

Despite that, the Dolphins may have more glaring needs on the offensive line, so they may need Metchie to fall to them in the draft.

Last season at Alabama, Metchie caught 96 passes for 1,142 yards and eight touchdowns. He was a key reason why the Crimson Tide won the SEC and advanced to the final of the College Football Playoff.
