Report: NFL execs expect Miami Dolphins to make another run at Deshaun Watson in offseason

While the Miami Dolphins haven’t publicly commented, a new report indicates that they’re expected to again look at the prospect of acquiring Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler looked at offseason free agent quarterback possibilities and also pointed to Watson as a potential trade target.

“His off-field issues cloud his trade outlook with uncertainty, but execs are expecting Carolina and Miami to make another run during the offseason,” Fowler wrote. “There are 22 active lawsuits against Watson with allegations of sexual assault or sexually inappropriate behavior during massage sessions.”

Due to those ugly off-the-field allegations, Watson hasn’t played at all this season for the Texans while the NFL investigates the matter.

Even before that situation developed, the relationship between Watson and the Texans had deteriorated to the point that Watson wanted to be traded. It seems clear that even if Watson escapes any punishment by the NFL, his time playing with the Texans has likely ended.

It remains to be seen if Watson will eventually land with Miami. Tua Tagovailoa’s development this season has been rocky at times.

Part of the reason for that is because Tagovailoa missed games this season because of injury. However, the Dolphins may ponder a trade if they’ve changed their mind about Tagovailoa’s status as the team’s quarterback of the future.

The Dolphins and Tagovailoa are currently more focused on extending their five-game winning streak, with the team off this weekend for a bye. On Dec. 19, they host the New York Jets and will hope to continue making a late run for a playoff berth.
