Report: Mike Gesicki will ‘probably’ command between $11 million and $13 million per year in free agency

Mike Gesicki is in the final year of his rookie contract with the Miami Dolphins.

If the Dolphins want to retain him, they might have to offer him a substantial amount of money. According to NFL insider Jeff Howe, Gesicki will “probably” command a yearly salary between $11 million and $13 million.

“The Dolphins will likely again pursue a trade for [Houston] Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, though that could reach another standstill if his legal situation remains unresolved,” wrote Howe. “Either way, the Dolphins need to keep building their offense around the quarterback, and tight end Mike Gesicki is set to become a free agent. He’ll probably command between $11 million and $13 million annually.”

Last month, the tight end stated that he had not talked to anybody in the organization regarding a contract extension. It is unclear if that is still the case now.

But the Dolphins should definitely consider holding onto Gesicki. The 26-year-old has played solidly for the team this season. Through 13 games, he has already surpassed his career-high of 53 receptions, which he recorded last season. He has caught 59 passes for 642 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Miami has been playing well as of late. After losing seven consecutive games early in the season, it is now on a five-win streak. Gesicki started in three of those five wins.

The team’s offense has been humming well recently, as Miami is averaging 23.2 points during its win streak.

It remains to be seen whether or not the Dolphins will decide to keep Gesicki beyond this season. Miami reaching the postseason this year could possibly help his case for an extension.
