Report: Phillip Lindsay could become bigger part of Miami Dolphins offense this week

Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores revealed that running back Phillip Lindsay could see a bigger workload for Miami against the New York Giants.

Flores did mention that it hinges on how things go in practice, but Lindsay could find himself in the game plan in Week 13.

The veteran running back saw 12 carries in his Dolphins debut against the Carolina Panthers in Week 12.

Miami easily won the game, 33-10, while Lindsay showed some burst on the ground, rushing for 42 yards. He only played 15 snaps in the game, but when he was in the lineup the Dolphins were making sure he touched it.

Lindsay was an undrafted free agent out of the University of Colorado and spent his first three NFL seasons with the Denver Broncos.

He rushed for over 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons before taking a step back in the 2020 campaign. The Broncos allowed Lindsay to walk in free agency, and he signed with the Houston Texans.

However, things didn’t pan out in Houston as the 27-year-old running back hoped, as he saw just 50 carries for 130 yards in his first 10 games.

Now, Lindsay has a chance to turn things around in Miami and prove that he can be a solid complement to running back Myles Gaskin in the Dolphins’ backfield.

Gaskin has struggled a bit this season, as he’s seen his yards per carry dip from 4.1 last season to just 3.5 in the 2021 campaign.

A veteran back like Lindsay could serve as a spark plug and help keep both runners fresh down the stretch of the season. Miami is 5-7 and has won four straight games ahead of Sunday’s matchup with the Giants.
