Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will not start in the team’s Week 9 game against the Houston Texans.
He is currently nursing a couple of injuries, including the rib injury that caused him to be placed on the team’s injured reserve list for three weeks earlier this season.
Another injury the young quarterback apparently sustained is an injured finger on his throwing hand.
Fortunately for the team, the injury will reportedly not keep Tagovailoa out of commission for a long time.
“The injury is not expected to keep Tagovailoa out long-term, according to sources,” wrote Adam Schefter of ESPN. “But Miami has a quick turnaround in Week 10 with a game Thursday night, and Tagovailoa’s status for that game against the Baltimore Ravens also is in question.”
Still, not having Tagovailoa at full strength for at least the next two matches deals another blow to Miami’s chances of stopping its seven-game losing streak. The Dolphins have not won a game since defeating the New England Patriots in Week 1.
Tagovailoa’s health has been a huge concern since his college days. Even so, the Dolphins franchise took a gamble when they selected him with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
In his rookie season, he started nine games for a 6-3 record. He completed 186 passes out of 290 attempts for 1,814 yards and 11 touchdowns.
So far this year, he has successfully converted 103 passes out of 157 attempts, throwing for 1,040 yards and seven touchdowns.
The 28-year-old Jacoby Brissett got the start at quarterback in place of the ailing Tagovailoa against the Texans.
