Report: Jacoby Brissett to start over injured Tua Tagovailoa for Miami Dolphins vs. Houston Texans
- Updated: November 7, 2021

After reports of Tua Tagovailoa dealing with another injury emerged, it looks like the Miami Dolphins will be starting Jacoby Brissett in their Week 9 matchup against the Houston Texans.
Dolphins’ QB Tua Tagovailoa has a small fracture in the middle finger of his throwing hand that has not recovered enough to allow him to start today’s game against the Texans, per league sources. Jacoby Brissett now is expected to be the Dolphins’ starting QB today, per source.

This certainly deals a huge blow to the Dolphins’ chances of securing their second win of the season. Tagovailoa reportedly went through his pregame routine. However, he apparently has not recovered enough from his rib and finger injuries, rendering him unable to start against the Texans.

The match versus Houston would have been a good chance for Tagovailoa to show that the Dolphins made the right choice in not dealing for embattled Texans star Deshaun Watson.
For much of the current season, Miami has been linked to Watson and reportedly had agreed to trade terms to trading for the quarterback. But the organization decided to stay put and let the trade deadline pass without a deal.
If a trade for Watson indeed materialized, it would definitely have had an impact on Tagovailoa’s future in Miami. There were even rumors that the 23-year-old would be sent to a third team amid a potential Watson deal.
With the roster set for now, Tagovailoa could focus on helping the Dolphins salvage what’s left of the season.
Unfortunately, he might have to wait until Week 11 to play again because of the quick turnaround between the team’s Week 9 and 10 games.
Tua Tagovailoa’s fractured middle finger is not expected to keep him out long-term. However, with a quick turnaround for Thursday Night Football this week, his status for Week 10 against the Ravens now also is in question. https://t.co/6gTeQCZ6rZ

Tagovailoa has completed 103 passes out 157 attempts in five games this season, throwing for 1,040 yards. He has also thrown seven touchdowns, but has already matched his total interceptions from last season.
