Report: Deshaun Watson open to waiving no-trade clause for teams other than Miami Dolphins

With the NFL trade deadline approaching, rumors surrounding Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson have begun swirling again.

While the Miami Dolphins have been frequently mentioned as a possible landing spot for Watson, it sounds like the 26-year-old quarterback is also open to landing elsewhere.

His top priority is reportedly to simply “get out of Houston.”

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, who has a no-trade clause in his contract, is willing to consider multiple options for a new team as the trade deadline looms, a source told ESPN,” wrote Jeremy Fowler.

“Multiple teams are interested in Watson, and although his interest in joining the Dolphins has become a worst-kept secret of sorts in league circles, the source disputed the notion that it’s simply Miami or bust.

“The Dolphins remain a strong contender to land Watson in a trade, but he will consider potential options as they come because his primary goal is to get out of Houston, according to sources. The Texans also want to maximize Watson’s trade value with prospective teams.”

The idea of the Dolphins trading for Watson remains controversial for multiple reasons.

First off, Watson is still at the center of some pretty disturbing sexual assault allegations. That situation is far from resolved, and it remains to be seen how the matter will unfold.

Second, the Dolphins still have second-year quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. The youngster has looked impressive in recent weeks, and it would be a major decision if Miami decided to give up on him so soon.

Only time will tell if Watson finds himself wearing a Dolphins uniform at some point in the near future. If it happens, it’ll be interesting to see how the move is received amongst fans.
