The Miami Dolphins got some tough news Monday morning, as two key players hit the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Those players are offensive lineman Austin Jackson and tight end Adam Shaheen.
The timing is unfortunate, as there is a chance both Jackson and Shaheen could miss the season opener against the New England Patriots on Sunday.
Jackson was a 12-game starter in 2020. He figures to be a crucial part of Miami’s offensive line this year. If he isn’t able to play on Sunday, the team will have to look elsewhere for his production.
The Dolphins’ offensive line was one of the worst in the NFL last season. Health is going to be an important factor for the unit in 2021 if it wants to improve.
Shaheen, meanwhile, is entering his second season with the Dolphins. In the 2020 campaign, he caught 12 passes for 150 yards and three touchdowns.
Shaheen reportedly landed on the list due to a positive test. He was recently very vocal about his reluctancy to take the COVID-19 vaccine, saying the NFL wouldn’t “strong-arm” him into doing so.
As the week progresses, there will likely be an update as to whether or not Jackson and Shaheen will be able to play on Sunday. Miami is certainly hoping for some good news in that regard.
