Former NFL scout says it wouldn’t surprise him if Jaylen Waddle became ‘close to as good’ as Tyreek Hill

A former NFL scout believes that Miami Dolphins youngster Jaylen Waddle has the potential to become “close to as good” as Tyreek Hill.

“You have a nice variety of guys: DeVante Parker is a traditional guy, and the two speedsters with [Will] Fuller and Waddle,” former NFL scout Matt Williamson told the Miami Herald. “It would not surprise me if Waddle is as close to as good as Tyreek Hill. Comparing anyone to Hill isn’t fair, but he’s about as close as I’ve seen and could very well be in that stratosphere. He has that kind of explosiveness, and he’s an outstanding returner. I liked him a lot more than his teammate DeVonta Smith.”

It’s high praise for any player to be compared to Hill. Hill, a five-time Pro Bowler, is one of the best wide receivers in the league today. He led the NFL in yards per touch in the 2020 season.

Waddle, on the other hand, is coming off of an impressive collegiate showing. He spent three seasons at the University of Alabama and shot up draft boards with his elite playmaking ability.

The first-round pick totaled 106 receptions for 1,999 yards and 17 touchdowns over 34 career games in college. With the Dolphins, he’s hoping to rekindle the connection he had with Tua Tagovailoa when the two players were teammates at Alabama.

Waddle figures to make an impact right away at the NFL level. The Dolphins are certainly hoping that will be the case. The team is looking to make the postseason in the 2021 campaign after narrowly missing out in the 2020 season.
