Brian Flores says Miami Dolphins want ‘people with high character’ amidst Deshaun Watson rumors

Amid a flurry of rumors regarding a potential Deshaun Watson trade, Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores said that the Dolphins want “high character” players in their organization.

“There are a lot of things we weigh when we’re making decisions — fit on the team, overall talent, salary cap,” Flores said. “When we’re talking about a player or players, we’re always trying to do what is best for the Miami Dolphins. There are a lot of variables. We want a group that is tough, smart, competitive, loves to play and is team first. Those are the types of guys we’re looking for.

“We have a high standard for the people we have in the organization. We want people with high character throughout the building.”

Given the sexual assault and misconduct accusations that Watson has been embroiled in throughout the offseason, it’s an interesting quote by Flores.

Character is a very important thing, and it’s a safe bet that many fans would be upset with the Dolphins if they were to add a player with so many lingering character question marks.

It seems like Watson is going to be traded at some point, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he is going to land with the Dolphins. However, the belief is that Miami is one of the finalists for him.

If he does land with Miami, Tua Tagovailoa’s future with the organization would become a hot topic. The 23-year-old Tagovailoa has only completed one season at the NFL level, and he needs more time to develop and prove himself.

The Dolphins are set to open the 2021 season in about two weeks. Hopefully, some of the big questions will be answered by then.
