Miami Dolphins tight end Adam Shaheen’s recent absence from team practices has been injury-related, with his status for the near future currently up in the air.
The 26-year-old Shaheen was traded to the Dolphins in July of 2020 after spending his first three NFL seasons with the Chicago Bears. In five starts last season, he caught only 12 passes for 150 yards. He managed to score touchdowns on three of those catches.
While Shaheen’s return date is still a question mark, the fact that his knee doesn’t appear to have suffered any significant damage should be seen as a positive sign.
Shaheen’s training camp has been eventful, having spent some time earlier this month on the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list.
The fact that Shaheen will be absent from the final preseason clash on Sunday afternoon is largely unimportant, since such contests tend to be meaningless run-throughs for the start of the regular season.
Sunday’s road game against the Cincinnati Bengals will be followed two weeks later by the team’s Sept. 12 regular-season opener. That divisional matchup against the New England Patriots will also be away from home.
