The Miami Dolphins and Xavien Howard finally agreed to a restructured contract on Sunday.
Howard gave his take on the new deal, and it is safe to say he’s happy to be in Miami.
“Got the deal done,” said Howard. “It feels great to be out here with my team. I’m always happy to be here to be with the team practicing. I’m always happy to be here with the team that drafted me, sticking through the ups and downs.”
The 28-year-old had previously requested a trade following an offseason of unsuccessful negotiations with the Dolphins.
Last season, Howard was named an All-Pro for the first time in his career, and the Dolphins certainly hope he can continue that production over the rest of his contract.
Howard deserved a new deal despite having four years left on his contract, as he intercepted a league-high 10 passes and recorded 51 tackles and 20 passes defended during the 2020 season.
The Dolphins are looking to make the playoffs after a strong 10-6 season in 2020, and having Howard back should be key for their defense to help make the playoffs a reality.
