Miami Dolphins offensive lineman D.J. Fluker was placed on injured reserve by the team after undergoing meniscus surgery on Thursday.

The issue first came to light on Thursday morning, when it was noted that an “injury issue” concerning Fluker had developed.

By placing the 30-year-old on injured reserve during training camp, the Dolphins have effectively ended his time in Miami.

“Players placed on injured reserve during training camp are not eligible to be one of the players permitted to be designated to return to the team this season, according to the Dolphins,” wrote the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson.

Fluker was signed by the Dolphins as a free agent during the offseason, with his signing seen as a way to add depth and experience to the team’s improving offensive line.

Originally a first-round pick of the then-San Diego Chargers in 2013 out of the University of Alabama, Fluker played four seasons with the Chargers before playing with three other teams from 2017 to 2020.
