Nick Saban admits that Miami Dolphins not signing Drew Brees was reason he left team

Legendary football coach Nick Saban recently offered some insight into why his time with the Miami Dolphins came to an end many years ago.

He was very candid when giving his explanation.

“So, I decided right then when that happened that we don’t have a quarterback in the NFL, we’re not going to win,” Saban said of his time with the Dolphins. “I’m getting out of here. I’m not staying here. I’m not going to be responsible for this. That doctor didn’t know his a– from a handful of sand. Drew Brees plays 15 more years, wins a Super Bowl, goes to nine Pro Bowls. And we didn’t take him in Miami, where he wanted to go. Some things you can’t control. When we left there nobody understood why. Well that was why. There’s always a reason.”

Saban ended up spending two years with the Dolphins as the organization’s head coach before leaving for the University of Alabama. With Miami, Saban went just 15-17, but he is widely regarded as one of the best football minds on the planet. Most Miami fans surely wish his tenure with the team had ended differently.

It’s easy to understand Saban’s frustrations regarding the Brees situation. Brees, who recently announced his retirement, had one of the best quarterback careers in NFL history. He led the league in completion percentage six times, passing yards seven times and touchdowns four times.

Since leaving the Dolphins, Saban has had an incredible amount of success at Alabama. The school has won six national titles under his leadership, and the dynasty is showing no signs of slowing down.

Meanwhile, the Dolphins are looking to get back to the playoffs this upcoming season for the first time in several years.
