According to a recent report, Miami Dolphins third-round pick Hunter Long is drawing comparisons to legendary tight end Rob Gronkowski.
“The Miami Dolphins drafted Hunter Long in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft,” wrote Luis Sung of Five Reasons Sports. “Many draft pundits think very highly of the Boston College standout, some suggesting his ceiling could be akin to Rob Gronkowski.”
Long established himself as one of the best tight ends at the collegiate level during his three seasons at Boston College. Long is not only an outstanding receiver, but he is also a phenomenal blocker.
In the 2020 college season, Long was the top receiving target at Boston College. He caught 57 passes for 685 yards and added five touchdowns over 11 games.
The previous season, Long showcased his explosiveness when he averaged 18.2 yards per catch. He racked up 509 total yards on just 28 receptions.
Kyle Pitts of the University of Florida was widely regarded as the top tight end prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft, but many evaluators had Long as the No. 2 prospect at the position. In the end, he was the third tight end taken off the board.
The selection was a great value pick for the Dolphins, and fans may be pleasantly surprised with the impact Long makes in the upcoming season.
