Report: Xavien Howard ‘unhappy’ with current contract and fact that he makes less than Byron Jones

Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard is reportedly not pleased with his current contract, according to the Miami Herald, and hired a new agent last winter as he looks to restructure his deal.

“According to a source, Howard is unhappy about being paid less than Dolphins cornerback Byron Jones, who had two interceptions last season compared with Howard’s 10,” wrote Barry Jackson, Adam Beasley and Armando Salguero.

Howard’s new agent, David Canter, has reportedly talked to the Dolphins about restructuring Howard’s deal, but the Dolphins have apparently been “noncommittal” so far.

The Dolphins signed Howard to his current contract back in 2019, and when they agreed to the contract, it made Howard the highest paid cornerback in the league at the time.

Howard is now no longer the highest paid cornerback in the league. That title belongs to Jalen Ramsey of the Los Angeles Rams.

On his current deal, Howard has four years left and is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in 2025.

Although he still has many years left on his deal, Howard could possibly hold out until the Dolphins cave and give him a new deal.

With offseason activities continuing to take place and preseason getting closer and closer, it will be interesting to see what ends up happening with this situation between Howard and the Dolphins.
