Tua Tagovailoa’s trainer estimates that he was ’60 percent healthy’ last season

Tua Tagovailoa’s trainer Nick Hicks believes that the Miami Dolphins quarterback was about “60 percent healthy” during his rookie season.

Tagovailoa, who was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, was coming off of a major hip injury that he suffered at the University of Alabama.

While Tagovailoa wasn’t 100 percent, he still made nine starts for the Dolphins during the 2020 campaign.

The rookie had his ups and downs, as he threw for 1,814 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. He was benched a few times during the season, but he retained the starting job after he was inserted into the role.

With veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick now in Washington, Tagovailoa will have a chance to truly show why the Dolphins took him so high in the 2020 draft.

The additions of Will Fuller and Jaylen Waddle should make the Dolphins more explosive on offense, but it will all depend on Tagovailoa’s development and if he’s ready to become a franchise quarterback.
