Report: Tua Tagovailoa ‘expected’ to try out new Miami Dolphins offense later this month

Even though the start of the 2021 NFL season is months away, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is eager to get back to work and begin learning the team’s new offense.

Cameron Wolfe of ESPN pointed out that the second-year passer is “expected” to try out his team’s new offense later this month.

“Dolphins co-offensive coordinators Eric Studesville and George Godsey are already deep in the process of building a new offense,” Wolfe wrote. “[Brian] Flores is excited about what he has seen from a scheme that is expected to be more flexible and take advantage of Tagovailoa’s skills.

“Some players — including Tagovailoa — are expected to arrive for on-field workouts later this month to try it out.”

The Dolphins’ top pick in last week’s draft, wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, already has a history with Tagovailoa, as they were teammates at the University of Alabama.

That familiarity and Tagovailoa’s tireless work ethic figure to expedite Waddle’s transition into the NFL, which can only help the Dolphins’ bid for the postseason.

Tagovailoa started nine games last season, but he struggled at times and seemed constrained by the Dolphins’ highly conservative offense.

With a growing number of offensive weapons at his disposal, Tagovailoa could take a major step toward becoming the standout quarterback the Dolphins envisioned when they selected him last year.
