Chris Grier discloses why Miami Dolphins decided to cut Kyle Van Noy after just 1 season

The Miami Dolphins cut last year’s defensive captain Kyle Van Noy this offseason in an effort to save some cap space.

Van Noy, 30, signed a four-year, $51 million deal with the Dolphins last offseason.

Despite the fact that Van Noy totaled six sacks, 69 tackles, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries last season, Dolphins general manager Chris Grier explained why the team decided to move on from him.

“Kyle did a good job for us last year and provided a lot of things,” Grier said. “He helped us win 10 games like a lot of our players on this roster that are no longer here. I wish him the best. But for us, we had some young players we were developing that we felt good about and those guys need to get on the field. At the end of the day, it was a decision we made as an organization going into it. We talked about the roster at the end of the season between Brian [Flores], myself, the coaches and the scouts. At the end of the day, it was a move we made.”

The Dolphins will move forward with Andrew Van Ginkel as a potential replacement for Van Noy next season.

They also could use one of their draft picks to bolster the position. Van Noy agreed to a deal with the New England Patriots in free agency and will face the Dolphins two times next season.
