A new report indicates that the Miami Dolphins are interested in Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner when NFL free agency gets underway on March 17.
ESPN’s John Clayton spoke (approximately 1:16:00 into the program) about the Dolphins’ interest in Conner during an appearance on The PM Team w/Poni & Mueller radio show on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh.
The 25-year-old Conner is a native of Pennsylvania who played collegiately at the University of Pittsburgh before being chosen as a third-round draft pick of the Steelers in the 2017 NFL Draft.
In his four seasons with the Steelers, Conner saw limited time during his rookie campaign before having a breakthrough campaign in 2018. Over his NFL career, Conner has rushed for 2,302 yards and scored 22 touchdowns on the ground.
Along with his production in the Steelers’ running attack, Conner has also caught 124 passes during his career with four touchdowns.
The Dolphins are looking to bolster their running corps, with only two of their backs, Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed, signed for next season. Gaskin is the more productive of the two backs, but it’s clear that to compete in the postseason, an upgrade in this department is a necessity.
Conner would be a solid addition and the relatively inexpensive cost to acquire him should be possible with the salary cap the Dolphins have available.
