The Miami Dolphins reportedly are focused on bringing in “multiple playmakers” on offense this offseason.
The Dolphins are looking to surround quarterback Tua Tagovailoa with more weapons in his second season in the NFL.
“The Dolphins don’t have expensive free agents whom they need to re-sign, so the main priority is adding offensive talent to surround quarterback Tua Tagovailoa,” ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe wrote. “Miami is focusing on bringing in multiple playmakers, particularly adding reliable speed at wide receiver, a position group that was one of the NFL’s worst teams in terms of separation in 2020.”
The Dolphins have a star wide receiver in DeVante Parker, but their weapons aren’t nearly as lethal further down the depth chart.
Due to injuries, Miami played a combination of Salvon Ahmed, Jordan Howard, Myles Gaskin, Matt Breida and DeAndre Washington at running back last season.
The lack of weapons could have contributed to Tagovailoa’s underwhelming stats, as he threw for just 1,814 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions in nine starts.
Still, the Dolphins clearly believe in the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft if their plan is to build the team around him.
Miami has the No. 3 pick at its disposal to get a top weapon as well as a free agent class that could feature some promising talent at the receiver position.
