Kyle Van Noy breaks silence after being cut by Miami Dolphins: ‘I am surprised and disappointed’

Kyle Van Noy reacted to the news that he was released by the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday.

Van Noy, 29, was a captain for the Dolphins last season and was “surprised and disappointed” by the team’s decision.

“I am surprised and disappointed in their decision,” Van Noy said in a statement. “As a captain, I gave my all to the team. I fought through a painful hip injury during the season, including spending a night in the hospital after a game. I was brought there to be a leader and I know my teammates looked up to and respected me. I am looking forward to making an impact on my next team, on and off the field.”

Van Noy signed a four-year, $51 million deal with the Dolphins last offseason.

By cutting Van Noy, Miami saves $9.75 million in cap space, but it does take on $4.12 million in dead cap.

Last season, Van Noy had six sacks. He finished the year with 69 tackles, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

The Dolphins will likely move forward with Andrew Van Ginkel as a potential replacement for Van Noy in 2021.

After a solid season, Van Noy will likely draw a lot of interest in free agency.
