2 NFL executives believe Dolphins should pursue Deshaun Watson over keeping Tua Tagovailoa

It is no secret that the Miami Dolphins will be involved in the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes this NFL offseason.

Miami holds the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and has a solid young quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa to dangle as trade bait.

The Houston Texans certainly would want to get as much as they can for Watson, and Miami can put together a great package because of its draft capital.

While the Dolphins are currently proceeding with Tagovailoa as their starter for next season, two NFL executives believe that Miami should pursue Watson.

“Incidentally, both executives thought Tua Tagovailoa could be a competent-to-good long-term starter but both said they would aggressively pursue Houston’s Deshaun Watson if he is made available in a trade,” the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson wrote.

Watson is one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. He threw for 4,823 yards, 33 touchdowns and just seven interceptions last season.

Tagovailoa, the No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, started nine games for Miami, but his numbers don’t come close to Watson’s.

Tagovailoa threw for just 1,814 yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. While he did play less games, Tagovailoa doesn’t have the star power that Watson already possesses.

While Tagovailoa could develop into a star, both executives seem that they would rather have the proven Watson as their quarterback going forward.
