Report: Deshaun Watson ‘open’ to being traded to several teams outside of Dolphins and Jets

The Deshaun Watson trade rumors kicked into high gear on Thursday, with the Houston Texans quarterback officially requesting to be traded. The Miami Dolphins are one of two teams expected to have the best chance to land him in a trade.

The Dolphins will likely have to compete with the New York Jets to acquire Watson if they choose to go that route. However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes Watson may have a list of many teams he’d waive his no-trade clause for.

“I know Deshaun Watson has a no-trade clause in his contract,” Schefter said. “But let me be very clear about this: I think Deshaun Watson is going to be open about where he’s traded to. I don’t think he’s going to veto too many teams. He wants to go anywhere other than the Texans.”

The real question is whether the Dolphins are ready to go all in on Watson and either send Tua Tagovailoa to the Texans or have him sit behind the three-time Pro Bowler. Tagovailoa showed flashes of promise during his rookie campaign, but he’s definitely a working progress.

As for Watson, the Texans star is more than ready to lead a team primed to take it to another level in 2021. The 25-year-old will be a hot commodity on the trade market as he’s arguably one of the best players at his position in the NFL today.
