Report: Ryan Fitzpatrick will ‘likely’ be asked to return to Miami Dolphins next season

The Miami Dolphins reportedly will “likely” ask Ryan Fitzpatrick to return to the team next season.

Fitzpatrick, 38, started seven games for Miami this season, going 4-3. However, it is possible that he could retire or go elsewhere next season.

“Fitzpatrick likely will be asked to return, but the 38-year-old has been non-committal about whether he wants to play next season,” the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson wrote.

Fitzpatrick was benched after the Dolphins started the season 3-3. Rookie Tua Tagovailoa took over and Miami went 6-3 in his nine starts.

Still, the Dolphins missed the playoffs after they got blown on on Sunday by the Buffalo Bills.

By all accounts, Fitzpatrick has been the consummate teammate and mentor to Tagovailoa.

However, if he wants to compete for a starting job, Miami may not be the best place for him to be.

Fitzpatrick threw for 2,091 yards, 13 scores and eight picks this season. He clearly has something left in the tank, but the Dolphins seem committed to letting Tagovailoa run the franchise.

It will be interesting to see what Fitzpatrick’s decision will be this offseason.
