Report: Dolphins to ‘consider signing’ Jake Rudock due to Tua Tagovailoa’s injury

Given the uncertain status of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins are considering the prospect of signing Jake Rudock, a signal-caller they released back in September.

Tagovailoa suffered his thumb injury during a Dolphins practice prior to Sunday’s road game against the New York Jets and was eventually ruled out of the contest.

The Dolphins had hoped Tagovailoa would be able to play, but the team instead chose to move forward with caution by starting Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Rudock was originally drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2016 and has only appeared in three games in his NFL career thus far. He played all three games with Detroit in 2017, in which he completed three passes for 24 yards and threw one interception.

Signing Rudock would simply be a move by the Dolphins to bolster the team’s depth and allow Tagovailoa time to fully recover from his injury.

The Dolphins’ protective nature toward Tagovailoa is based on his past injury history and their vision of him as the player who can again have them challenging for the Super Bowl.
