The Miami Dolphins officially began the Tua Tagovailoa era yesterday by promoting the rookie quarterback to the starting role.
While many fans are excited for the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft to get this shot, there is a sad side to Tagovailoa’s promotion.
Veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has been terrific this season, was benched in favor of Tagovailoa.
He was fully honest about his initial reactions to the news.
It is a tough pill to swallow for Fitzpatrick, as he did everything he could to keep the starting gig.
The veteran led Miami to a 3-3 record, including back-to-back wins against the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Jets.
Fitzpatrick had thrown for 1,535 yards and 10 touchdowns through the season’s first six games.
Now, Tagovailoa will take the reins in Miami and try to build on what Fitzpatrick has already done this season.
It will be interesting to see how the veteran handles his transition to the backup role after performing so well this year.
