The Miami Dolphins named rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa their starter just days after he made his NFL debut in Miami’s blowout win over the New York Jets.
Tagovailoa entered in garbage time, but he flashed some of the talent that led Miami to select him with the No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Now, with the entire city of Miami buzzing with excitement over the surprise promotion, Dolphins offensive coordinator Chan Gailey has identified some of the things he saw from Tagovailoa on Sunday that he surely hopes to see a lot more of in the coming weeks.
While the Dolphins had the game well in hand, Tagovailoa was able pick up a first down with Miami backed up in its own territory.
He finished the game completing both of his pass attempts for nine yards.
The Dolphins are now 3-3 on the season behind quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, but it was reported that Tagovailoa will take over the starting job when the team plays the Los Angeles Rams in Week 8.
After going 5-11 last season, Miami has been much improved in 2020.
The Dolphins now head into their bye week and have to feel pretty good about both the quarterbacks on their roster.
