Miami Dolphins starting cornerback Byron Jones was ruled out for the remainder of the game due to a groin injury suffered in the first quarter of the team’s game against the Buffalo Bills.
Whether or not Jones will be out for an extended period remains to be seen, with rookie Noah Igbinoghene currently taking his spot in the lineup.
Jones was a free agent acquisition by the Dolphins during the offseason and was expected to team with Xavien Howard to form a potent duo at the corners.
However, Howard has also had problems staying healthy as he looks to bounce back from season-ending knee surgery last year.
The 27-year-old Jones spent his first five seasons in the NFL as a member of the Dallas Cowboys, where he earned a Pro Bowl berth for his performance during the 2018 season.
The Dolphins can’t afford to have him miss an extended period of time as they seek to bounce back from a 5-11 season last year.
The injury to Jones is one of a string of injuries that have already taken place during Sunday’s action, the second week of the NFL season.
