Miami Dolphins rookie sensation Tua Tagovailoa was a full participant in his team’s training camp.
That’s why many fans were quite confused, and understandably concerned, when the prized rookie showed up on the team’s injury report just days before the team’s opening game of the 2020 season.
“Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was listed on the first Dolphins injury report of the year as fully participating in practice despite a hip injury,” Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk wrote.
“Presumably, it’s the same hip injury that he suffered last season at Alabama. (It would be quite the coincidence if it were a different hip injury.) Though he’s not expected to play against the Patriots on Sunday, it’s telling that the supposedly healthy Tagovailoa is still dealing with the aftereffects of the 2019 injury.
“The fact that he fully participated in practice means it’s no big deal. The fact that he’s on the report likely means that he received some sort of treatment for the injury.”
Hours later, one Dolphins insider took to social media to respond to Florio’s report and ease fans’ fears.
The Dolphins have made it clear that they plan to take it slow with Tagovailoa. After all, it was less than a year ago that he suffered a season-ending hip injury while playing for the University of Alabama.
Still, the fact that the team parted ways with quarterback Josh Rosen surely means that it has full confidence that Tagovailoa could play this Sunday if he needed to.
There’s no question that the youngster will continue to work on his hip rehabilitation going forward. When it comes to Tagovailoa showing up on the team’s injury report, that might just become something that fans have to get used to this season.
