The Miami Dolphins have announced the signing of CFL defender Nate Holley and are expected to use him at multiple positions.
The 25-year-old Holley played collegiately for four seasons at Kent State University. After going undrafted in the 2017 NFL draft, Holley was later signed by both the Minnesota Vikings and Los Angeles Rams before being released by both teams.
Last year, Holley signed with the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders, with his performance strong enough to earn him Most Outstanding Rookie honors from the league.
After the CFL canceled its 2020 season earlier this week, Holley gained a release from his contract, allowing him to sign with the Dolphins.
Holley’s versatility on the field will allow the Dolphins to use him at either safety or linebacker, though he still needs to make it through the team’s training camp.
The Dolphins made a concerted effort during the offseason to offer upgrades on defense after the 2019 unit allowed a league-worst 494 points.
