Jets Star Rips Adam Gase: ‘I Don’t Feel Like He’s the Right Leader for This Organization’

The fortunes of former Miami Dolphins and current New York Jets head coach Adam Gase took another hit when Jets safety Jamal Adams expressed doubt about Gase’s leadership ability.

Adams, who has asked to be traded by the Jets, spoke to the New York Daily News and left no doubt that Gase has little credibility within the Jets locker room.

“I don’t feel like he’s the right leader for this organization to reach the Promised Land,” Adams said. “As a leader, what really bothers me is that he doesn’t have a relationship with everybody in the building.

“At the end of the day, he doesn’t address the team. If there’s a problem in the locker room, he lets another coach address the team. If we’re playing sh—y and we’re losing, he doesn’t address the entire team as a group at halftime. He’ll walk out of the locker room and let another coach handle it.”

The fact that Adams is offering such a statement is a powerful indictment against Gase, who’s set to begin his second season with the Jets.

In 2017, Adams was the sixth overall selection in the NFL draft and has twice been named to the Pro Bowl during his three NFL seasons.

Prior to Gase taking over the Jets last year, he had served three seasons as head coach of the Dolphins from 2016 to 2018, compiling a 23-25 regular season record, with one playoff appearance.

In Gase’s first season with the Jets, the team finished 7-9, though they won six of their last eight contests.

Adams’ comments aren’t the first time that Gase’s coaching abilities have been questioned, with some members of the organization also expressing doubts about the possibility of his success.

Whether or not Adams is still a member of the Jets when the 2020 NFL season starts is unknown. Through his comments, it seems clear that he’s trying to force the Jets’ hand to either deal him away or get rid of Gase.
