ESPN Ranks Miami Dolphins as Most Improved Team Entering 2020 NFL Season

The Miami Dolphins were one of the busiest teams in the NFL this offseason.

With the most cap space available, the Dolphins went on a spending spree.

Free agent cornerback Byron Jones, linebacker Kyle Van Noy and defensive end Shaq Lawson were added to the Dolphins’ defense, which ranked 30th in total defense last season.

Running backs Jordan Howard and Matt Breida were added to the Dolphins’ backfield, which ranked last in rushing in 2019.

With more first-round picks in the draft than any other team, the Dolphins were able to add key young talent. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, offensive lineman Austin Jackson and cornerback Noah Igbinoghene were the Dolphins’ three first-round selections.

After all the Dolphins’ offseason moves, ESPN ranked them as the NFL’s most improved team of the offseason.

“When you have three first-round draft picks and spend close to $200 million in free agency, you’d better be at or near the top of this list,” ESPN’s Dan Graziano wrote. “There were some big spends on defense, including the top prize on the cornerback market in Byron Jones and a former Patriot in Van Noy to help lead former Patriots defensive coordinator Brian Flores’ defense. But all of that pales in comparison to Tua mania, which gives Dolphins fans hope for the future as the team builds a roster around the former [University of] Alabama superstar QB.”

The Dolphins clearly had a standout offseason. The organization has a lot to be excited about in 2020 and beyond.

Dolphins head coach Brian Flores’ squad might not be ready to win just yet, but the pieces are there to begin competing at a high level pretty soon.
