Career Stats Offer Compelling Reason Why Ryan Fitzpatrick Is Better Than John Elway

On Wednesday, a Miami Dolphins fan offered a wild comparison showing that some of Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick’s career statistics rival those of legendary Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway.

Fitzpatrick’s numbers on the left show him with advantages in most of the listed categories, though critics will likely note that the statistics have been picked to favor Fitzpatrick

In addition, the numbers of Fitzpatrick and Elway are only focused on per-game career averages and fail to note that Elway was a nine-time Pro Bowler, an achievement that’s eluded Fitzpatrick during his career.

Also, the Dolphins are Fitzpatrick’s eighth different team, while Elway spent his entire 16-year career with the Denver Broncos.

Right now, the 37-year-old Fitzpatrick is winding down his own lengthy NFL career and is expected to eventually give way to the Dolphins’ top 2020 pick, Tua Tagovailoa.

Exactly when Tagovailoa takes over is uncertain, but the Dolphins surely wouldn’t mind Fitzpatrick matching Elway’s final two seasons with the Broncos.

Those campaigns ended with Elway leading the Broncos to Super Bowl XXXII and XXXIII wins, with the quarterback winning Super Bowl MVP honors in the latter contest.

That’s likely far too much to ask of Fitzpatrick, who’s been a quietly productive quarterback over his previous 15 NFL seasons. However, in some respects, it’s clear that he can show that some of his numbers rival those of a Hall of Famer.
