Tua Tagovailoa Offers Important Words of Wisdom to High School Football Prospects

Despite not having a usual rookie offseason, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is still doing all he can to be a role model.

The Dolphins hosted their eighth annual High School Media Day on June 24.

Players from high school football teams at 150 Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach county schools were invited to the virtual presentation.

The event offered the high schoolers insight on life skills, diversity and finances, among other things.

It included over 600 high school players listening to advice from current Dolphins rookies.

Tagovailoa, who the Dolphins picked fifth overall in April, spoke about social media and its dangers.

“I think for me, going through that in college, it’s really however much you decide to go on social media, first off,” Tagovailoa said. “If you’re on that thing every time, you’re obviously going to see whatever anyone says if you’re someone that likes to post just to post because you like the likes or you like the comments. You’re going to see that. There’s been instances where I’ve run into a lot of them.

“But I guess the structure that I’ve had growing up, it’s been easy to deal with sort of things like that. Having the structure of my family and then our faith, as well, that’s kind of what’s helped me not worry about those kinds of things.”

Tagovailoa has already had a few social media encounters since the Dolphins drafted him.

Earlier in June, the team posted a video of Tagovailoa where he revealed Shania Twain was his celebrity crush.

Just a few days later, Twain responded in a flirtatious way.

It’s good to see Tagovailoa recognizing how dangerous social media can be.
