NFL Analyst Predicts Miami Dolphins Could ‘Leap Up’ in Win Count, Win AFC East

The Miami Dolphins will enter the 2020 NFL season with higher expectations than those of last year after bringing in a lot of new talent this offseason.

In fact, NFL Network’s Marc Sessler believes that the Dolphins could build on the success of last season to make a “leap” in the AFC East in 2020.

“That division’s weird,” Sessler explained on Monday’s Pick Six Podcast with Will Brinson. “I know everyone just tickets the Bills to win, at this point … (but) Brian Flores, Ryan Fitzpatrick, that combination, to me, was too good down the stretch … They may leap up in the win count a little bit quicker than some think. I just think they’re fun.”

The Dolphins acquired multiple key players this offseason through free agency and the draft. They brought in cornerback Byron Jones, running back Jordan Howard and linebacker Kyle Van Noy to help bolster a roster that won just five games in 2019.

They also found their potential franchise quarterback and left tackle in this year’s draft by taking Tua Tagovailoa and Austin Jackson in the first round.

While Tagovailoa and Fitzpatrick will likely battle for the quarterback job, having the veteran presence of the 37-year-old Fitzpatrick may help the team develop faster this season.

Miami won three of its final five games in 2019, giving it a springboard to take in the new campaign.

With the departure of quarterback Tom Brady from the New England Patriots, the AFC East is wide open for the first time in years.

Miami opens the 2020 season on the road against New England on Sept. 13.
