For weeks, it had been assumed that the Miami Dolphins were going to select a quarterback with the No. 5 pick in the upcoming NFL draft.
However, a Wednesday report indicates that the Dolphins may be interested in trading up to No. 3 to select an offensive tackle.
There are a number of highly talented tackles in this year’s draft class. The top prospects include the University of Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs, the University of Georgia’s Andrew Thomas and the University of Alabama’s Jedrick Wills Jr.
While it was previously reported that Miami wanted to trade up from their No. 18 selection to try to get an offensive lineman, it looks as though priorities may have shifted.
While the Dolphins are believed to be most interested in either Justin Herbert or Tua Tagovailoa at the quarterback position, they may be willing to see if either slide once draft day comes.
Selecting an offensive tackle near the top of the draft would be a major departure from what fans and experts alike have expected the Dolphins to do.
Still, if the organization believes that course of action is the best for the team’s future, fans will have no choice but to trust the decision.
