Miami Dolphins wide receiver Isaiah Ford re-signed with the team on Friday after having been tendered as an exclusive rights free agent in March.
The decision by the 24-year-old Ford is not considered a surprise, since his only other option would have been to sit out and hope that the Dolphins pull the offer.
The 6-foot-2 Ford was a seventh-round pick in 2017 out of Virginia Tech University, but a knee injury kept on the injured reserve list for that entire first season. He returned and has seen action in nine games over the past two campaigns, collecting 23 catches for 244 yards.
During the 2018 season, Ford only saw action in one game and had no receptions in that contest.
However, he came on during the final month of 2019, hauling in 21 of his 23 catches, including three games with five or more grabs.
Prior to the starts of both the 2018 and 2019 regular seasons, Ford had been released before then being re-signed as part of the Dolphins practice squad.
Though Ford is again officially a member of the Dolphins, he’s not guaranteed a roster spot and will be among a group of receivers already battling for playing time.
In addition, the potential exists that the Dolphins will pick a wideout in next week’s draft or sign a free agent after the selection process concludes.
