Report: Miami Dolphins Have to ‘Begrudgingly’ Trade Up If They Want Tua Tagovailoa

The Miami Dolphins will very likely be selecting a quarterback in the first round of the upcoming NFL draft.

While some experts have said that the Dolphins should be wary of University of Alabama product Tua Tagovailoa, a recent report indicates that if Miami wants him, it might have to actually move up from the No. 5 pick to snag him.

“If Tagovailoa is the pick, the Dolphins may begrudgingly have to trade up for him,” Safid Deen of the Sun Sentinel wrote.

“In an ideal world, everyone stands pat in the draft order and no trade offers into the top three occur, allowing Miami to keep all their picks and take Tagovailoa at No. 5.

“But the NFL draft is a less-than-ideal scenario.

“It may be difficult for the Dolphins to justify trading away two or three picks — with at least two of them being first rounders — for a player with Tagovailoa’s injury history. You don’t want to overpay for someone who may not be durable, but you must weigh the potential risk vs. the potential reward.”

Without his checkered injury history, Tagovailoa could very well be the most valuable player in the draft.

He has played college football at the highest level for years and has crushed opponents every step of the way with his quickness, arm talent and high-level football IQ.

Last season, he threw for 2,840 yards and 33 touchdowns while throwing just three interceptions before injury forced him to miss the final handful of games.

Unfortunately, his injury history is absolutely something teams have to keep in mind, especially if they are thinking about selecting him near the top of the draft.

Tagovailoa’s injury history probably plays a large role in a recent rumor that the Dolphins are actually more interested in University of Oregon product Justin Herbert at the moment.

The truth is that fans probably won’t really know who the Dolphins are planning on selecting with their No. 5 pick until they are on the clock.
