Draft boards across the NFL are starting to crystalize with one recent report potentially offering clarity when it comes to who the Miami Dolphins see as their quarterback of the future.
As the report indicates, the Dolphins will likely be picking between University of Alabama product Tua Tagovailoa and University of Oregon product Justin Herbert.
Apparently, the Dolphins might be leaning in Herbert’s decision at the moment.
As most NFL fans know, Tagovailoa is largely considered to be one of the most physically talented players in this year’s draft.
However, a slew of injuries over the last two seasons have raised red flags.
As for Herbert, he’s a physical specimen who showed improvement every season during his four years at Oregon.
Last season, the 6-foot-6 passer recorded 3,471 total yards with 32 touchdowns and just six interceptions.
While he’s got all the arm strength necessary to succeed in the NFL, the concerns surrounding Herbert mirror the concerns that have existed for many former Ducks.
Primarily, his lack of experience under center might make the learning curve in the NFL pretty severe.
On top of that, Herbert does need to improve when it comes to accuracy in both deep and intermediate passes.
Finally, he will need to improve when it comes to beating blitz packages if he wants to become a major success at the next level.
With the draft fast approaching, it is always unclear if new rumors are rooted in truth. It is just as likely that this report is a smokescreen.
The truth is that fans likely won’t know who exactly the Dolphins will select at No. 5 until draft day finally arrives.
