The entire sports world is currently at a standstill due to the novel coronavirus, but President Donald Trump is confident that the NFL season will start on time, according to ESPN.

“In a conference call with major league sports commissioners on Saturday, President Donald Trump said he believes the NFL season should start on time in September, sources familiar with the call told ESPN,” Adam Schefter and Adrian Wojnarowski wrote.

“Trump also said he hopes to have fans back in stadiums and arenas by August and September, sources said, although it is currently unclear if medical experts find that to be a realistic timeline amid the current coronavirus pandemic.”

It is unclear just how realistic the potential outcome is. Right now, there seems to be no end in sight when it comes to the spread of the illness.

With that being said, there is no doubt that researchers and medical professionals are working around the clock to try to find a way to better treat the illness and prevent its spread.

Hopefully, life is able to return to relative normal sometime this summer so that the 2020 NFL season can go ahead as planned.

However, if major gains are not made against the coronavirus in the meantime, it is likely that the optimistic viewpoint will give way to a more realistic form of caution.
