The Miami Dolphins extended their current win-streak to three games on Sunday when they came back in stunning fashion by scoring 17 points in the final quarter of the game. Much of the comeback can be attributed to backup quarterback Matt Moore, who came into the game when Jay Cutler went down with a rib injury.
Following the game, it was reported that the Dolphins feared Cutler had cracked several of his ribs. The injury was confirmed on Monday morning and according to head coach Adam Gase, it has left Cutler’s status for Thursday Night’s game against the Baltimore Ravens very much in doubt.
Gase also addressed questions about whether or not Cutler will return as the starter once he is healthy.
Cutler first six games in a Dolphins’ uniform have been less than stellar. With many fans already clamoring for Moore to take over the starting job, Cutler’s injury gives the veteran backup a genuine opportunity to make his case.
Cutler’s injury should not keep him off the field for long. If Moore continues to perform the way he did in Sunday’s second half, however, when he went 13-21 for 188 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception, it might be hard for Gase to keep him out of the starting lineup.
