Dan Marino Opens up About Never Winning Ring with Dolphins

For legendary Miami Dolphins and Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino, he possesses one of the best statistical resumes in NFL history.

Highly regarded as of one the top players at his position of all time, Marino currently sits in fifth place in multiple regular season career categories: touchdown passes with 420, passing yards with 61,361 and passes completed with 4,967 during his illustrious 17-year NFL career.

However, a major burden that falls over Marino’s legendary career is that he was unable to win a Super Bowl championship ring with the Dolphins, which he opened up about in an upcoming NFL Films production of “Dan Marino: A Football Life.”

“I’ve never experienced what it is like to walk off the field as a Super Bowl champion. You’ve just got to accept what it is,” Marino said in an interview with NFL Network. “Would I like to know what that felt like? Yeah, hell yeah, I’d love to know what that felt like.”

According to Hal Habib of the Palm Beach Post, an off-camera interviewer asked Marino if there’s anything cool about being the best quarterback not to win a Super Bowl.

“It’s not cool, no, no,” Marino said. “Because in your heart, you’re a competitor. When you say it that way, I can’t accept it. I did a lot of things but that’s the one thing that’s not cool.”

A trailer for the NFL Network special on Marino can be viewed on YouTube, which features appearances from Dolphins Hall of Fame head coach Don Shula as well as fellow legendary quarterbacks Brett Favre, Troy Aikman, Peyton Manning, Jim Kelly and John Elway.

“If there is anyone that ever deserved a Super Bowl it was him,” Elway said. “He’ll go down as one of the greatest of all time.”

“Dan Marino: A Football Life” premieres next Friday on NFL Network at 9:00 p.m. ET on the quarterback’s 56th birthday.
