The Miami Dolphins aren’t expected by many to contend for a playoff spot in the 2026 campaign, and depending on how the season unfolds, they could even be in the mix for a top pick in the 2027 NFL Draft.
One recent mock draft from Pro Football Network agrees that the Dolphins are likely to land in that realm, with the team projected to have the No. 2 overall pick in the draft. However, this particular mock has Miami trading away that pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers and ending up with the No. 14 overall selection.

If the Dolphins were to trade back that far, they’d be punting on a chance to select a top quarterback prospect. The mock draft from Pro Football Network has quarterbacks Dante Moore, Arch Manning and Drew Mestemaker going No. 1, 2 and 3, and any of those players could be game-changers in the NFL.
Pro Football Network’s mock has the Dolphins selecting offensive tackle Carter Smith at No. 14 overall after the hypothetical trade. It’s unclear what the other details of the trade would be.
There is a chance Miami will be in the market for a quarterback by the time the 2027 draft rolls around, but there is also a world where that isn’t the case. The franchise signed newcomer Malik Willis to a three-year deal worth $67.5 million this offseason, which would seem to indicate a level of belief in him to be the solution at the position.
But he will have to prove it, as his opportunities at the NFL level have been somewhat sparse. Since being drafted in 2022, he has made six starts and 22 appearances. His results have been impressive, but he has yet to prove that he can keep it up over the course of a full season since he hasn’t been given that chance.
He seems to be on track to have that type of opportunity with the Dolphins this season, so if he plays at a high level, perhaps a quarterback won’t be at the top of Miami’s list going into the 2027 draft. But for now, nothing can be ruled out.
