Nick Hicks, former trainer of Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, recently took to social media to talk about his former client.
Hicks said that people who attacked him in the past for training Tagovailoa are “super quiet” now. The former first-round pick has not had his best season with Miami in 2025, so Hicks may feel like his past work with the quarterback helped him play at a higher level.
Hicks has previously said that he’s open to working with Tagovailoa again to help him get back to his old form.
The 2025 season has been a tough one for the Dolphins star, as he’s tied for the league lead in interceptions with 14 and has completed 67.2 percent of his passes – his lowest percentage since the 2022 season.
The Dolphins have been hot as of late, winning four of their last five games to jump to 5-7 on the season. Tagovailoa had a great game during this recent stretch, tossing four scores against the Atlanta Falcons, but he only has 17 total touchdown passes in 2025.
In Week 13 against the New Orleans Saints (another game Miami won), Tagovailoa completed just 52.2 percent of his passes for 157 yards and a pick. It was yet another game where the lefty looked nothing like the player that led the NFL in passing yards in the 2023 season.
To be fair, Tagovailoa has spent a lot of the 2025 season without star receiver Tyreek Hill, but his turnovers are a major issue. He’s already matched his career-high in picks this season with five games to go.
It’s unclear if Tagovailoa would be willing to train with Hicks again. With any luck, it would help him get his game back to the Pro Bowl level that he achieved in 2023.
If there’s one positive takeaway from the 2025 season, it’s that Tagovailoa has yet to miss a game. The former No. 5 overall pick has just one season in his career where he’s played more than 13 games, but he’s already up to 12 appearances with five games to go in the 2025 season.
If he can stay healthy for the Dolphins, they may have a shot to steal a playoff spot in the AFC.
