Miami Dolphins star signal-caller Tua Tagovailoa has operated without an agent representing him for a little bit now. It’s been months since he parted ways with Ryan Williams of Athletes First, but Tagovailoa doesn’t appear to be in any rush to find his successor.
Tagovailoa said this week that he has “no plans” to hire a new agent. However, he’s not the only standout quarterback who does not have a certified agent, as Baltimore Ravens star Lamar Jackson and Chicago Bears youngster Caleb Williams fall under that umbrella as well.
“Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa parted ways with his agent, Ryan Williams, several months ago and said this week that he has no plans to hire a new one at the moment,” Barry Jackson wrote. “That certainly could change in the future if Tagovailoa decides he needs one. But for now, he’s not actively seeking an agent.
“In February 2023, Tagovailoa hired Williams and his Athletes First colleague, Austin Lyman, to replace Leigh Steinberg, with whom he parted ways weeks earlier.
“Williams and Lyman negotiated Tagovailoa’s four-year $212.5 million contract extension 14 months ago. That contract runs through the 2028 season.
“Tagovailoa joins Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson and Chicago’s Caleb Williams as prominent quarterbacks who do not have a certified agent.”
The former University of Alabama star doesn’t stand out as being particularly in need of an agent at this time, as he’s under contract with Miami for the foreseeable future. He is also on track to receive a base salary of at least $31 million in every one of the next three seasons, headlined by a whopping $41.4 million salary in the 2028 campaign.
Tagovailoa has more pressing matters on his agenda than worrying about his next contract years before his current one expires. He’s trying to get the Dolphins back in the playoff race after they started the season out 0-3, and he can lead them to their second consecutive victory against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
Carolina is another 1-3 team this season, and if Tagovailoa can be as effective as he was against the New York Jets, it should be enough to propel Miami to its second win in a row. Tagovailoa finally bucked his disturbing trend of throwing at least one interception every game this season in that contest, and he also completed 17 of his 25 passes.
Even if the Dolphins beat the Panthers on Sunday, they will still have plenty of winning left to do in order to truly contend for a playoff spot late in the campaign. However, it would be a step in the right direction for Miami and get the team closer to the .500 mark.
Here’s hoping that Tagovailoa will enjoy another standout showing on Sunday, and Miami will come out on top handily.
