Source who nailed Jalen Ramsey trade adds to Tyreek Hill-Steelers buzz

Not all that long after the Pittsburgh Steelers made a trade with the Miami Dolphins for tight end Jonnu Smith and cornerback Jalen Ramsey, Pittsburgh reportedly is interested in acquiring another elite talent from Miami.

The Steelers have been linked to Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill, and NFL insider Mike Florio provided a reason to believe that Pittsburgh really does want him. According to Florio, the same person who told him that Ramsey was eventually going to land with the Steelers said that the team is looking to add Hill.

Florio did note that this came prior to recent allegations of domestic violence against Hill.

“I’ll give you a little nugget that made the Steelers chatter a little more interesting to me,” Florio said. “The same guy who told me that Jalen Ramsey was gonna be a Steeler, right when the first talk emerged of the Dolphins trading Jalen Ramsey, told me that the Steelers want Tyreek. And I scoffed when this guy first told me that the Steelers want Jalen Ramsey. And that was back in April. So I’m taking this a little more seriously.”

The Steelers already employ one of the more effective wide receivers in the league in D.K. Metcalf, and pairing him with Hill would make for one of the most talented receiver duos in all of football. Metcalf has accumulated as many as 1,303 receiving yards in a single season, and he totaled a team-high 83 receiving yards in his Steelers debut against the New York Jets in Week 1.

Meanwhile, Smith had a touchdown in his Pittsburgh debut, and he’s not far removed from racking up the most receiving yards by a tight end in a single season in Dolphins history. Hill might relish the opportunity to play alongside the 30-year-old once again.

Florio’s comments come at a time when noise that the Dolphins should trade Hill away has arguably never been louder. Frankly, there is a convincing argument that Miami should move him soon because of his massive contract, the possibility that his trade value could plummet even further and the chance that a contending team would be willing to part with draft capital for Hill.

It would be quite the feat if the Steelers managed to poach three of Miami’s top players on both sides of the ball in just a matter of months. Pittsburgh has a 1-0 record to start the new season and will look for its second win in a row when it takes on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2.
