After Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill had a rough third season with the team back in the 2024 campaign, he didn’t exactly look like a player ready to redeem himself in Miami’s opening game of the 2025 season. The Dolphins lost to the Indianapolis Colts by 25 points, and Hill mustered just 40 receiving yards on four receptions in the team’s ugly loss.
In light of how out of sorts Hill and the Dolphins looked to kick off the campaign, a report has surfaced indicating that Miami received trade calls for the 31-year-old. However, the team didn’t show interest in moving him elsewhere.
“Trade rumors around Tyreek Hill will be worth watching,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler wrote. “My understanding is that Miami received calls on Hill but did not show interest in trading him. If the losing persists, perhaps those phone lines reopen. The Dolphins already exercised Hill’s $15.85 million option bonus, leaving a $10 million base salary and $1.8 million in per-game bonuses.
“A [Kansas City] Chiefs reunion is low-hanging fruit and could be what Kansas City needs. The Chiefs can’t seem to get their receiving trio of Xavier Worthy, Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown on the field at the same time, and a boost of explosiveness would help.”
Hill certainly looked rusty in the first game of his fourth season as a Dolphin. That could be because he missed Miami’s entire preseason slate with an oblique injury.
There’s a real argument that Hill has worn out his welcome in Miami, and perhaps a change of scenery is what he needs to get back to the player he once was. After all, he was in the running for one of the top offensive players in all of football not too long ago, as he ranked tops in the NFL in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns with Miami in the 2023 season.
Maybe the Chiefs need to acquire Hill at some point before the trade deadline in order to have a real shot at winning another Super Bowl this season. Kansas City left plenty to be desired with its play against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 5, and no player for the Chiefs totaled triple digits in receiving yards in the contest.
How Hill performs in the Dolphins’ upcoming contests could very well play a role in what his value will be on the trade market leading up to the deadline. If he continues to look like a shell of his former self in Miami’s looming games, perhaps the team will have to settle for moving him for pennies on the dollar if it wants to end the Hill experiment before the deadline.
Miami fans are hoping that Hill will be a whole lot more productive when the Dolphins take on the New England Patriots in their Week 2 game on Sept. 14.
